Hope someone can help me here… So I just bought Supermicro SYS-1019C-FHTN8 and everytime I try to boot Mikrotik x86 with this device, it always hang when coming to login. Probably it doesnt accept old kernel.
Does anyone have same issue and know how to deal with this matter?
AFAIK ROS x86 (bare metal version) doesn’t support SATA disks (only IDE). Currently only solution of the problem is to run ROS CHR inside virtual machine … Probably ROS v7 will bring bare-metal support to more modern hardware, but ROS v7 is not exactly “just around the corner”, it might take quite some more time to get near usable state.
So its actually not hang. It just my keyboard is not functioning as well all the onboard LAN. So onboard USB and LAN doesnt work. I can access winbox thru the PCIe SFP+ card that I use with this server.
Maybe any advice for the onboard usb and LAN can be functioning?
actually wont freeze just the keyboard may not work.
i was unable to run usb keyboard when i install on oem server i had setup and tuning by installing old type ps/2 keyboard.
I am having the same problem with IMM, which is the internal KVM of my older generation IBM X3650 m3, which is housed in the data center. The console on the IMM has image but the keyboard is dysfunctional. I perform management by connecting external kvm device
I use x86 ROS on number of systems, always running off USB flash drive. As long as you use USB 2.0 ports (there’s still a few on every mobo) it should boot no problem. I don’t see need for running it from harddrive or SSD as there is really no need for more disk space and USB is very universal and easy to work with. Most flash drives I use are older brand name 256MB ones, with little writes ROS does they will last ages.
As for support of other devices, that’s a bit more problematic… thankfully ROS really doesn’t need much more than working network and USB controller to boot from.
