Is there any way at all to retrieve a list of subscriber modules off of a canopy access point and display the bandwidth usage of them. I have a customer who keeps his bandwidth usage pegged all day and I need to find him
Are you looking to setup long term monitoring or just find a bad user real quick?
“asithappens” is a neat quick bandwidth monitor you can setup SNMP point it at an device and it will list all the interfaces.
Select an interface and it will graph it. You should be able quickly find out if individual clients show up as interfaces in SNMP.
If clients are not listed maybe networkminer or wireshark or enable netflow on your router and use scruitnizer (their free version is nice).
Whats the matter with Torch to identify the most active IP, who likely is your culprit?
Creating links for your each of your Canopy radios would ultimately solve the problem.
Been doing this for years with mixed networks, and find Dude is great for hog control regardless of vendor…
Never-the-less, there are many ways to thwart abusers, and I have found the Dude has many ways to detect anything, and using bandwidth history will tell you much about trends in your network.
Yeah, I really think the best thing to do is to learn how to monitor the network but I was just thinking about what the OP has time for. I would say the learning curve on for The Dude is steep when you want to get very precise operation. I don’t have any canopy radios I am also still curious since I couldn’t find the answer with search… Can you pull the client bandwidth on a Canopy? How hard would that probe be to build?
