I have a r532 behind a DSL NAT router, so it is on a private IP. I cannot get to it even though I have a VPN tunnel set up in the router and can see everything else on that router’s LAN side.
Router’s LAN = 192.168.196.1
R532 = 192.168.196.2
Other stuff, like access points and customers are 192.168.196.xxx and I can see them using my VPN. Just can’t see the MT board.
If you and your RB532 are behind your NATed router, then you don’t need to have VPN tunnel setup, you should just type http://routers ip address/ and you should get to the routers home page, where you can download winbox, or you could if under windows click start run…type cmd hit enter
in cmd line type
“telnet 192.168.196.2” -->command is everything inside " "
enter your username and password and you are loged in.
please also make sure that your router is on the right subnet
eg:192.168.196.2/24 whichever subnet that you use!
But if you are trying to access your router via internet you will need to setup port forwarding for your NATed router if I am correct Winbox uses port 8291 ssh uses port 22 I think telnet uses port 23 so what ever port you need to forward you will need to setup on the DSL router.
When I am on the LAN side, no problem getting into the MT board.
When I am outside in another location and try to vpn into the MT board, I cannot. I tried port forwarding but that isn’t working either.
I have many networks set up using MT boards. Some are directly connected to a DSL router, others have a Linksys RV042 VPN router connected to a simple DSL router. All are VPN accessible, this is how I manage my networks remotely. I can remotely see everything on the LAN side except the MT boards, which is very frustrating as I can’t troubleshoot the MT boards if something goes down - I have to drive to the network and connect in on the LAN side if I want to troubleshoot the network.
