Have a Mikrotik hEX RB750Gr3 that I am trying to plug a Unifi 8 port switch into. The Unifi is a managed switch that should get a ip via dhcp. When I connect it to the Mikrotik it never shows up.
I have other non managed switches and when I plug them in devices that are plugged into those switches get dhcp and connect. It is just the Unifi tht does not. Do I maybe have to change a port setting? I have been unable to get into the Unifi setup but when I connect the Unifi to a laptop running a dhcp server I can see it get an address and ping it. I have not tried a x over cble as I assumed it would autosense and use a regular cat6
Is it a brand new un-adopted Unifi switch ?
I think a Unifi switch requires a live Unifi controller, unlike EdgeSwitches for which a DHCP server should be enough.
It is a new switch. I wad able to spin up the Unifi software and adopt it but it still never shows up when I connect it to the Mikrotik. I gave it a static address yesterday and tried again with no luck. I get link lights but I can not access it when its plugged into the Mikrotik. I am going to try with a few other routers I have later today and see what is going on. I believe the issue is on the Unifi end
Also I tried a bunch of cables that are working fine. I grabbed a 10’ that we had extra from a new Dell SAN that push 40Gb so I know the cables work. Also made up a X Over cable and tried with no luck
Update
I can see the switch if I plug it into another switch or my old router (netgear) that is acting in AP mode.
So Mikrotik > Unify = No Connection
Mikrotik > Netgear 8 Port switch > Unifi = Connection
Mikrotik > Netgear router in APmode > Unifi = Connection
I bought the Unify to run some POE AP’s . I have a Cisco 3750G that I will be using soon so I can change my plan for connection. Initially I was going to go
Mikrotik to Cisco on ETH2 and Unifi on ETH3.
Can try Mikrotik >Cisco 3750 > Unifi
Did you check for any port settings mismatch? E.g. if Mikrotik is set to not do autonegotiation while Unifi does it, the link would likely fail to establish. Nowdays everything should be set to autonegotiation and most of time it would just work. If it doesn’t, try to set port settings manually, just make sure settings are identical on both ends (e.g. 1Gbps, full duplex, Tx and Rx flow control off, …) …
I’ve not had any problems mixing Mikrotik and UniFi. One site is similar to yours with an RB750Gr3 connected to a US-8-60W, both with the default ethernet port settings and a regular network cable, the switch obtains an address with DHCP and appeared in a remotely located controller using the DNS layer 3 discovery mechanism.
