Can't coonnect to Cap AC

Hello,

Recently i have purchased CAP AC for my RB4011. I have setup it with CAP manager and few day it worked (test). Because i don’t need it at the moment for AP i want to reconfigure it to use it as AP client for my PC (My PC doesn’t have WiFi onboard). My RB4011 is at another location.. i want to configure CAP AP to work as client to connect to my land lords Wifi.

The problem is that i can’t connect to the CAP AP with WinBox.. i have tried to reset it to factory settings (hold reset on power up until user LED blinks)
but it doesn’t work.. I see it in Neighbors but when i want to connect via mac i cant..

My device: RBcAPGi-5acD2nD v:6.49.10. I’m connecting to it via Eth1.

Can any one please help on how to connect to it or do a proper factory reset?

Default cap ac will have a firewall on ether 1.
Best to use PC connected on ether2 when connecting via winbox so you can make required changes.
Or connect using wifi (you have 2 channels, only 1 will be used to connect to your home wifi).

If i connect it to eth2 i can’t see it in Neighbors..
Will i have to first connect it back to the Router and “reset” for CAPm and then try to access it?

I’m familiar on client configure but the problem is that i can’t access the CAP AC. Is there any other way to factory reset it?

Reset sequence:

Hold this button during boot time until LED light starts flashing, release the button to reset RouterOS configuration (total 5 seconds).

Keep holding for 5 more seconds, LED turns solid, release now to turn on CAP mode. The device will now look for a CAPsMAN server (total 10 seconds).

Tried that several times (a bit longer the 5second when the “user” LED starts Flashing. Leave it to flash for 3-4times then release but still.. In winbox it take quite some time to find it and when i want to connect via mac it just says “could not connect and retry”…

Found the problem but don’t know why.

I could not connect via Winbox (i have the v3.40), but tried via my work laptop (v3.35) and could connect.. i tried then to copy winbox to my PC but did not work.. as long as AP hasn’t been configured at least the IP i could not connect with my PC only with laptop.

Does any one know what could be the problem?

As already indicated:
Depends on HOW you connect to that AP.

Default cAP AC will have WAN on ether1 and as a consequence a firewall rule blocking al incoming traffic.
Via Wifi however you should be able to access that device. Or ether2.

Windows firewall ?

Maybe when you run winbox (v3.40) first time you disable it in the firewall.
And now when you running (v3.35) it’s not disable in the firewall.
Or maybe like lots of windows stuff need to run as administrator.

And using winbox, you can connect two ways, via mac or via ip.
In your ip configurations in your computers may be different between them.
Static or dhcp…
