I’ve installed RouterOS on a Dual Core Atom machine with 1gb RAM, using a USB stick for a system drive. It boots and I can connect to it with WinBox. I’ve registered at Mikrotik.com and login and click ‘account’ but the only option available to me is to change my password. Shouldn’t there be something in there for applying to get a demo license?

once you install you have 24hrs to demo it out before the license expires. during the demo period you can get the software id and create an account on mikrotik.com and purchase a license using the software id. you will then get the license key emailed you or you can view it in your mikrotik.com account and then you just paste license key through Winbox and it will apply and prompt for reboot. then your licensed.
beyond that you can but a cheap RB750 online and use it to learn if your aprehensive about buying a license for x86, then if you don’t like sell the RB750 on ebay and one of us will buy it
