Can't get IP from ISP

My RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN will not get an IP from my ISP. I’m using Comcast and I turned on logging and called Comcast, of course they say the offer no support to owner owned routers (Big Suprise) but I asked if they still support IPV4 and she said no. SOOOO. I think my problem is the router is trying to pull an IPV4 address… (Log looks like it is seeing an IPV6 address if i’m reading it correctly. (I hooked up to my current router and was able to pull an IPV4 address from that router’s DHCP)

What I would like to do is set up my WAN to pull the IPV6 address from the ISP, but I would like to still use IPV4 on my LAN. Is this possible and if so how does one set this up. I’m a computer guy but far from a networking guy so I’m fairly new on the network side and not quite ready to dive head first into IPV6 on my local network. I appreciate any help you can provide.   1. install 6.7 or newer,
  2. activate ipv6 packages on system / packages
  3. Enable DHCP client
  4. now your router (if correctly configured) are connected by IPv6
  5. do the remainig configuration for your needs.

I upgraded to 6.11 when connected to my current router. I enabled the IPV6 package and set up the DHCP client on IPV6 on ether1-gateway. Still no joy…

The router provided by isp have fixed ipv6 address?

My current router uses IPV6 only for WAN (DHCP), LAN is IPV4.

What parameters have the WAN IPv6? copy that on routerboard…

Comcast provides an ipv4 address on all connections and ipv6 on most. The person you talked to was incorrect.

You need to reset the cable modem so that it will see the mac address of the new router. Residential comcast connections only provide one ipv4 address and it is restricted by the cable modem.

Well don’t I feel just stupid! Thanks for the advice to reset the modem. Why didn’t I try that to begin with! Up and running… Now to more advanced configurations at my leisure…
