i’m using a routerboard RouterBOARD 532a and administer it using Winbox V2.9.34. i need to create a user interface so users can check their own usage throughout the month. i thought the user manager module might do the trick but when i ftp it to the routerboard, then reboot, the log says:
system error: cannot install user-manager-2.9.42: it is not made for mipsel, but for i386.
any ideas why i get this message?
the user manager may not be what i’m looking for so maybe someone can point my in the right direction. what i need is for our users to go to a URL that prompts for their username and passwd. then provides them with their current monthly usage in MB. is this possible? if so, can someone please tell me how to accomplish this.
Winbox just shows the version of RouterOS running on the router its connected to, so in this case you just need to bring RouterOS up to date (2.9.42) to match the version of User-Manager running on it. The version of Winbox itself is displayed on the loader page - mine is 2.2.10
The description of your original need - for users to be able to check their own usage during the month - is something I’ve been struggling with for some time, with no success. I cannot connect to the ‘User-Page’ said to be possible in Wiki - and others report the same problem in a number of threads in this forum (with no response from MT or anyone who knows how it’s really done!) but User-Manager itself isn’t readily suited to this. It’s intended more to let hotspot users know how much of the time and/or data they’ve purchased they still have left. As I’ve never been able to access the actual user-page, only the Administrator’s web GUI, I don’t actually know what it can show users but I fear that at the least it’s going to need a script running at 00.00 at the end/beginning of the month to re-set the available usage for the month and presumably some way of logging the information as at 23.59 before it’s wiped.
If anyone knows how to do that - and actually access a user-page - please let us know. Please, please, pretty please!
Reflecting on my previous post, it occurs to me to wonder if the reason I - and perhaps others - cannot connect to this elusive ‘User-page’ is that I don’t actually have the hotspot package running, either on the router carrying User-manager or anywhere else on the network, as I’m not running a hot-spot.
