If I plug my macbook pro via ethernet into the second port of the mikrotik hex lite it wont get an ip address and I can’t access the router’s webpage via the standard adress. I have already done a reset of the router pressing the button (in the back) in before powering up. There is no internet line connected currently, but I would still like to configure the router.
Try MAC-connect using winbox (there are ways to run it on mac). Working IP setup on RB is not needed for this kind of connection.
You don’t say if this is a new Mtik or already used. In 2nd case IP GW address might have changed.
Go into Macbook network settings and check IP address of the GW. It might by different to the 192.168.88.1
I assume you use Thunderbolt to Ethernet connector? Make sure this one actually works. My one sometimes
don;t provide connectivity at all.
If the thunderbolt works and still can’t connect, download WINBOX for Mac

This allows to connect via MAC layer. (PS you still need user name and pw)
