Can't restore other PC backup

Hi!
I’m running a HotSpot on an Intel PC, using RouterOS 3.3 Level 5. It has 8 ether ports, some with their names changed.
I make a backup file, copy it to another Intel PC running RouterOS 3.7 Level 5 with exactly the same ether ports (I mean, the whole hardware is the same).
When I use restore for that file, it doesn’t restore the backup very well…

Ether interfaces aren’t renamed
So IPs and routes get “unknown” on their interfaces…

I tried renaming the ether interfaces before restoring the backup, but it didn’t work.

Am I doing something wrong?

OK, what I did was re renaming all ether interfaces on the source PC, so they were all named as they came (ether1, ether2 and so on)
I then backed up
And restored on the other PC

BUT IT DIDN’T WORK

There’s something that could have something to do:
The one I call now DESTINATION PC (where I try to restore the backup) was once the source PC, and all the mac addresses of ether interfaces are the ones that came originally on that PC.

So, those mac addresses are cloned on the PC now running my hotspot, which I’m trying to backup…

Could that be it?

I changed Mac-Address on each ether interface in the source PC
Backed Up
Restored in the second PC

DIDN’T WORK EITHER!

Any hints?

U can use //ftp ur address
use binary //hash bin
then use //mput filename

i am sure it will work now

Chofex,

you can’t do what you want to do here, cause the backup file can only be restored in the same pc properly. you can restore the backup file in another pc but you have to fix(enable) all your ethernet or wireless card and have to correct all your rules attached to the ethernet or wireless devices too.

Thanks

Thank you both for your comments.

Thing is I have done it many times, and worked perfect, till now!

I installed 3.7 so both computers had the same RouterOS version.
It didn’t help at all!

So, what I did to fix it up was this:
I restored the backup
exported configuration on both PCs
Compared both text files using WinMerge
Everything was identical, except for the places where the ether interfaces where missing, but using this tool it was quite easy to find them all.

Hope next time I don’t need any of this!!!

Thanks again

Chofex
