As the title says I want to access Routerboard configuration from RouterOS since I read that accessing Mikrotik router via winbox, webFig, ect are not secure, So I wanted to use RouterOS. Our Mikrotik routerboard is RB750GL. I wanted install RouterOS v 5.26 in our dedicated PC which has 256 MB ram, 80 gb harddisk and Intel P4 processor. Earlier I used to connect Mikrotik router from my PC via winbox. There I can see entire configuration of Router. we have LAN setup in our office, so there is physical LAN cable between my pc and router.
Now I have installed RouterOS in another PC which I have specified before. I have established LAN connection between “RouterOS installed system” and Mikrotik Router. When I start system I see Mikrotik login: I have entered admin and empty password then I see Mikrotik command line. To check whether my configuration correct or not I typed the following command.
system routerboard print
Output I get:
routerboard: no.
I see there is no routerboard configured with my “RouterOS installed system”. Should I do something else? How can I overcome this problem?
I have done following to solve this problem, but I can’t solve.
setup
then added IP address(for input) in ether1, IP address(for out) in ether2 and gateway. Then I see that I can able to ping my colleague’s static IP from “RouterOS installed system” since my colleagues and I are in same network(Intranet).
You are completely misunderstanding the terms here.
RouterOS is the operating system of mikrotik devices (routerboard). It can also be installed on pc hardware.
To configure you can use winbox, webfig (webbrowser), telnet, ssh.
An pc installed routeros can be maintained via lical console. And some routerboard devices are equipped with a serial console port.
No that’s not what I meant. I accidentally typed the word ‘add’. I meant that some routerboard are equipped with a serial port that can be used for configuring.
A routerboard always runs RouterOS.
My routerboard has serial port and it has RouterOS as you mention then why I couldn’t use the RouterOS in separate PC to configure my routerboard.
tell me the need of use PC installed RouterOS. If all the configuration can be done by Winbox, telnet, ssh, ect. then why there is Separate RouterOS which cost us $53.
