CAP AC bricked after RouterOS upgrade

So as it says in title I have brand new CAP AC device, turned it on, logged in with winbox, and I go straight to System → Packages → Check for updates and clicked downlad & update button, after that it downloaded new software and rebooted/started upgrade… and that’s it, after that it cannot be found via winbox, only first and last leds are lit, power and something that looks like person or admin..

how can I put it in etherboot mode?

Information about Etherboot: https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Etherboot

yes I was on that page and on reset page, but it doesn’t help, I was holding reset for more than 5 minutes and nothing happened…

Did you happen to get Protected RouterBOOT enabled?

No ofc not, I didn’t even know that existed till after this happen.. As I said it was brand new device, first boot, went straight to os update and it bricked

If you did exactly what you said in your first post, try backup bootloader. Information find in links below:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:RouterBOOT#Main_and_Backup_loaders
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Reset#Using_reset_button

In case backup bootloader did not help anyhow, try to use Netinstall:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall

yeah but no… trying to boot into backup boot loader didn’t help either… when I do it is stuck in reset loop… if its just turned on without touching reset button then it stays on (leds at least) but it both cases I can not access it or find it in winbox…

And about Netinstall… are you sure there is netinstall on CAP AC, or any new devices that use ARM architecture? Because I was able to put/get my old RB951 in netinstall mode on first try but I didn’t have any luck doing it with CAP AC or hAP ac2… is there something different that I need to do for them to go in netinstall mode? or there is none on them?

After trying few more times it finally worked, I managed to put device into netinstall mode and made clean routeros install successfully.. Main problem for me was that Netinstall program is really sensitive to connected interfaces even if its wireless network card or virtual lan adapter from virtualbox… I had to turn off everything, and then it finally worked… CAP AC is now working again. Thanks everyone for help.

Thank you, your post helped me a lot. I was facing the same problem.

Update to routeros 7.4 and the cap ac was bricked. Reset doesn’t worked.

The hint to disable ALL networkinterfaces on my pc was the point.

Then I was able to find the cap ac in netinstall and make a clean install!
