cAP ac Performance Not As Expected

Hi.
Is there a guide on how to setup the optimal WiFi setting for the CAP ac wireless access point to get the best Wifi performance. I realize that there are alot of factors involved. I’m in the US using a US device.

Here is why I’m asking… I added a cAP ac to my network and the WiFi performance is not anything like I’d expect. I’m running ROS 7.11.2. On my wireless devices I’m getting download speeds like 20Mbps on 2GHz and 60Mbps on 5GHz when I am only 2 meters from the cAP ac in open space. As a comparison I tested the same device in the same place with a Unifi Access point and I’m getting 200Mbps+ downloads speeds on the Unifi AP. I’m running mostly the default wireless seettings in the cAP ac.

Thank you.

In most cases problems like these can be remediated (or at least improved) using manual channel/frequency selection.
Are you sure the selected frequency is as clear as possible from other interferences (like other access points from yourself or neighbors) ?
Don’t use default auto setting, it’s usually not good enough.

When you used the Unify AP, which frequency did it select ? Which channel width ? Which control channel ?
Use the same one on cAP AC (after switching of the Unify  ).
And then you can compare apples to apples.

When I am setting up a new AP, I use an app on my Android phone to scan the wifi channels on that location and try to use a frequency which is as clear as possible.
2.4Ghz, fat chance. In normal environments you can not find a spot where there are free channels. Use the 1/6/11 scheme then (don’t overlap 2 channels like using e.g. channel 4 in such environments, that’s even worse then using an already occupied channel since you will get interference from 2 channels then).
For 5GHz, chances are a bit higher (but e.g. in apartment buildings, it can also be a challenge).
When no free channel is available, I use a channel with the least detected APs.

This is a good idea. I need to do some research to figure out how to do this. Thanks!

Most devices connected to that ap will be able to tell which frequency or channel they use when you look into Wifi settings.
Any smartphone can do that, all PCs can do that.
