cAP AC, RB5009, ROS 7.17, CAPsMAN issue. Help please.

Hello everyone,
I have a RB5009 serving as my main router, running on ROS 7.17 and no other packages. I have a cAP AC connected directly to the router that is also running on ROS 7.17, but with the additional wifi-qcom-ac package. I want the router to serve as capsman controller, therefore I have enabled remote cap on it. Naturally, the CAP AC will server as a cap client and i have manually enabled cap mode on that too. I have been up and down the forum and Mikrotik documentations, whatever I do I can’t see cap ac wifi interfaces on the rb5009. Before, getting into any error logging, can RB5009 control the cap ac via the wifi-qcom-ac package, or do I have to install the wireless package on cap ac or both as well?

Thank you
p.s. For those that will raise the matter capsman for one wifi ap is an overkill, I have to setup 3 more behind that. I am just trying to figure out the config on one first.

Cap ac with wifi-qcom-ac package can be controlled by RB5009 perfectly.

See help pages, capsman with wifi-qcom-ac

Thank you for the fast reply. Then it’s a PEBKAC issue. I will fiddle more with the handshaking and if to no avail report back with the complete log. Cheers..

The easiest approach is to handle this is by resetting the CAPS to CAPS Mode. That’s all you have to do on the CAP site.

If that is performed correctly and CAPsMAN is enabled, you should see the CAP in the Remote CAP window. If that is true, all you have to do is add appropriate config and provision rules:

If you want to do some more advanced stuff like VLAN, there are some tricks you have to do manually on the CAP:

For specific questions, please add your current config(s):

/export file=anynameyoulike

Don’t forget to remove the serial and any other private info, post between code tags by using the </> button (which will make it more readable).

putting the cap ac in cap mode by resetting it worked out just fine. the new defcon configuration on the cap end has changed completely from how I used to do in the old wireless package. interesting. thank you all. now time to figure out how to vlan.
