CAP AC Vs HAP AC2

Hello everyone,

I have a specific scenario at home.
I am unable to pass Ethernet to bridge my current mikrotik hap ac2 with another access point where I need the WiFi to access point.

I am thinking of buying either hap ac2 or cap ac and do WDS mesh setup. I understand that wired communication is better than wireless and I also understand that CAPSMAN is not designed for wireless purpose.
Asthetically speaking I don’t mind either hanging on the wall.

My question is there any wireless benefits for cap ac , in terms of reach, gain, penetrations, throughout over say the hap AC 2?

A camera will be wired to the new device and the new device would need to link to the network wirelessly.

I don’t need many Ethernet ports on the 2nd hap ac.

As they are comparable in price.
I’d be very grateful for your help.
Thanks

The cAP ac and hAP ac² are basically identical with regards to wifi clients. Their differences are that the hAP has ports and the cAP does not.

An important difference - cAP AC has separate antennas for each chain /4/ and better wireless performance for that! hAP AC2 has 2 combined antennas for both frequencies!

Thank you, I answered too quickly before researching thoroughly.

I’m looking for documents confirm of this, May I ask where you got info about combined antennas from. Thank you.

I have both in my hand, hAP AC2 and cAP AC.

hAP AC2 has combined antenna for 2.4G/5G

cAP AC has dedicated antennas for 2.4G/5G

Wireless performance for both are the same, fast but inconsistent, sometimes give me 470mbps download and sometimes less than 300mbps, I tested them with ONLY 1 client (which is my phone) and 5GHz at my area is clean, noise floor is -108 which is pretty good, still I can’t get stable speed, not sure why.

But in my experience WIFI performance is always inconsistent, right? Have you experienced consistent WIFI performance with other WIFI devices?
(nice with pictures by the way, very usefull!)

Whit ww2 driver ipq40xx devices (cap ac, hap ac2, new wap ac etc) can push around 550mpbs on 80mhz channel, speed will vary per STA and env. But cap ac do have better antenna (better gain on angles), so if you need the best speeds or coverage this is the right option. Also cap ac do have extra port if you need it (whit poe passth).
