cAP ac with router OS v7

Cross reference with this long running thread about poor Wi-Fi performance at a particular site:

http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/horribly-slow-wi-fi-on-mikrotik-network/155718/1

Whilst I thought it was resolved by rebooting the cAP ac APs every night, the client has had enough of poor performance and wants to replace it entirely with UBNT equipment at significant cost. Not the greatest advert for Mikrotik but I’m almost out of ideas. I’ve set-up several near identical systems at other clients and they’re fine. The key difference with this site is that it’s highly congested. It just looks like Mikrotik Wi-Fi is not up to the job in this environment. The various threads about AX2/3 issues doesn’t fill me with confidence :frowning:

Anyway, my last suggestion/idea is whether Router OS v7 is any better? Better Linux kernel drivers etc.

Does the cAP ac have enough performance to run v7 and/or am I wasting my/client time even further?

Running cAP ac in a domestic environment with RouterOS v7.11, no problems for me.
Did a quick scan on the other topic but didn’t see any exports from the config. Did see a lot of crappy settings in the screenshots.

Two things I advice:

  1. Give V7.11 a chance
  2. Optimize your settings *)

*) To get some advice, please share the current config:

/export file=anynameyoulike

Make sure to remove serial and any private information.

If congestion is an issue look at alternatives besides ubnt. MT is not the answer IMHO either.

I don’t disagree… but the client has used UBNT successfully at other sites and thinks it’ll be fine.

Aside from this one site, I’ve had great success with RouterOS. Commercial and domestic setups.

Give V7.11 a chance

There are three access points in the bar which give over coverage so can risk breaking one
