Hello,
actually I’m looking for ideas for configuration.
I have configured CAPsMAN with 4 wAP ac running, both 2 and 5 ghz works quite well, but for extended range I’d like to add groove (I have one, unused) which has much better range, but unfortunately is slower.
If I add it to CAPsMAN configuration, after a while it ends up with all clients are connected to groove. It is logical if we are considering radio capabilities only, but from rate point of view wAP ac can perform faster.
Is there any way to achieve my goal?
Some prioritization of interfaces.
Similar question - is there any way to make clients to connect to 5ghz radio first, if capable?
Thanks!
About 5ghz: the priority defined only by client - you can’t influence on it. Groove has better range, but don’t forget that connection has two sides: not only from ap to client, but also from client to ap, so you can try to make access list rules to disconnect usert with particular signal level and set max client number
Thanks for your message.
Could you please explain bit more, I can’t imagine exactly how can I filter clients by RX level.
I suppose groove will be better for any parameter if considering radio, RX will be better just because it has much better antena.
About max client number it dosen’t sound realistic, as I can’t predict how many clients will be out of normal wAP coverage.
in access list create 2 rules: one accept to allow connection with particular (“good”) signal, the other reject - to disconnect users when their signal will become low
I think that for groove it will be better to create separate rule (not the same as for wAP’s)
The signal level that you should set you can get by testing (in most cases i setup -79..120 to accept and -120..-80 to reject for better roaming, but in your setup for groove on my opinion it should be a little bit other: for example -69..120 to accept and -120..-70 to reject)
Or, the other way - set power level of groove smaller (only to cover the place you want) - and use the same access list rules.
About 2 way conversation: if you have very powerful AP with very good antenna in some situations the client will see it, but without possibility to connect because client doesn’t have enough power
