You can not mix legacy wifi and wifiwave2 devices in capsman.

I call it legacy because “old” sounds too… old 
For me it is legacy since there is zero development on it already for some time, even on ROS6 as a whole ( except for some security fixes).
I am not alone labeling it as such.
And yes, you can still buy them.
I have also purchased some mAP and mAP Lite 2 weeks ago for a specific purpose.
One controller can not mix two capsman environments.
But you can run 2 controllers on the same network.
Most wifiwave2 APs are powerful enough to also be used as controller if you don’t have a dedicated device available (yet).

Nope, can’t be done.
All router functions ( dhcp, firewall, dns, vlan termination, …) can be done on 1 device. But not wifi management.

Depends on the number of devices to be replaced.
Also depends on the requirements for that wifi environment. What is it being used for ?
There are + and - for both options.
E.g.
- no need to fork out the investment right away if you gradually replace but eventually it will be needed.
- if however you can benefit from roaming from ap to ap, definitely go for replacement. Huge difference between “old” and new !!
I can think of some other arguments pro and con but you get the idea, I hope.
Roaming between APs is actually not really good.
If wifiwave2 makes a big plus here, it would be a very good reason for replacing all cAPs with cAPs ax.

I found an old CRS326 - maybe this works well as an intermediate controller for the old ones.
Depends on number of caps and type.
Cap ac, certainly yes.
Cap / Cap lite, might still be possible.
Crs326, I doubt it.

I’d say that legacy capsman controller on a crs326 depends on use case.
Do you use capsman forwarding? If yes, then the crs326 would not be a good choice. Otherwise the crs326 would be primarily for provisioning and should work fine.
I had multiple capsman controllers and one was a crs326 and it worked great when my primary was down.
