now manual is moved to Wiki. maybe some chapters are still available only in pdf/old format
Understood, sometimes my eyes hurt when reading intensely on the laptop too much
how is PDF different? ![]()
here you go:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Category:Manual&action=pdfbook
(it will generate for some minute, so be patient).
Don’t print unnecessarily, print only what you need.
Thank you!
Intense reading on my laptop hurts my eyes occasionally, so it will be nice to have something in print to reference.
Thank goodness reading the forums doesn’t hurt my eyes! Its worth its weight in gold!
Yes I agree with the BMWGuiness, I much prefer to have printed material.
I have a ring binder on my desk with relevant Mikrotik forum posts marked with highlighter, and wiki articles e.g. HTB that I reference regularly. Oh, and a mountain of Python, SQL and Juniper books.
The Mikrotik documentation is getting better, it is not a “complete” reference but what is there is useful and has quite good examples. Sometimes important information is omitted from the examples, assuming the reader already has this knowledge somehow…
The best documentation I have seen are the Juniper “ScreenOS Concepts and Examples” guides, if you have not seen them you should definitely check them out. The concepts are presented clearly with diagrams, then examples are provided with relevant CLI code and diagrams to help understand the situation.
Juniper’s documentation is outstanding. So is Cisco’s. It would be great if Mikrotik worked towards that.
I am brand new to all of this and I got the RB450G in today. No former knowledge of Cisco, etc.
Fortunately, I have successfully Updated and Upgraded the Firmware, the OS, and the License.
It was not the most user friendly for a n00b, but I was successful with the Manual Wiki.
Thank you.
Next, more studying of Mikrotik
Lol, yeah Juniper’s ScreenOS C&E guides and also their JunOS course books are outstanding. Unfortunately the actual JunOS reference manuals are the worst I have seen, as an example check out this: http://www.jnpr.net/techpubs/software/junos/junos94/swconfig-vpns/configuring-the-vpls-interface-encapsulation.html
BMWGuiness, I would suggest checking out the Mikrotik training videos Greg Sowell has done at http://gregsowell.com/?page_id=951 they are excellent, and save a lot of time reading.
