Question. If I install a cavity filter on my AP will that be enough? Or do I have to install them on the CPEs as well?
Typically no. Since the cpe is usually much closer to the ground, it is not as likely to “hear” interference as high mounted AP. I have used cavity filters on 900 AP and have had a much improved noise floor and overall performance. I used Ubiquity filters because they have a much narrower “window” than others I looked at.
I haven’t tried the filters yet as I couldn’t see spending any more $$ on a temp link, however, the UB filter looks better.
Most cover about a 100MHz range. My interference came from a cell tower at 892MHz. Completely shut down the link in anything but B mode. My opinion, anything but the UB filters is a waste of time, at least in the US.
I use the ubiquiti 900 mhz filter on my tower and it helped alot
i improved 3db on my links. my personal link to my home 3 miles away i went from a 2mb download to 5 using 10 mhz channel 912
Thanks for the answers. Has anyone used the new XR9s? I understand that they have built in cavity filters.
I dont think they are out as yet ![]()
??
And unfortunately they arent/wouldnt be compatible with the existing sr9’s, but according to rumour there will be some “trade up” program implemented.
Regards.
A little off topic, but how does trade up work, SR9 $160.00 now out of date and no longer compatible with new line of XR9 which is advertised at $130.00.?
Sounds like the same marketing Verizon does “it’s better now so give us $$$ for our previous oops”…
I just ordered 2 XR9s for testing. Not gonna hold my breath on the trade up/in. Ubiquiti is good on responding to customer concerns, they just dont follow thru. Hopefully the XR9s will deliver.

Ah, well please let us know how they work out, cuz I plan on changing out all my existing sr9’s.
Contact Mike directly. Seems to be the best way.
I contacted Mike (support@ubnt.com) got responses asking more details from him and one of his people (will have to dig up the name). I provided the details and got back nada. I give up on the SR9s. I figure that if the XR9s dont work for me I’ll just go to Zcomax cards and try them. I really want the Ubiquiti cards to work, I am getting a lot of interfearance from SOHO routers and trees. I am about to expand into two different markets and they are both noisy. If the ubiquity or Zcommax doesnt work, I’ll have to abandon the suburban, tree ladden market and use 5Ghz for the urban market. Has anyone had any experience with the Zcommax cards?
