CCR 1016 can not pass netbios between interfaces

I get that this needs to be a layer 2 deal but…the CCR 1016 doe snot have a the switch chip so you can not do a master slave scenario like you can with the CRS. Any suggestions to allow valid internal netbios on bridged interfaces work? Yes I googled it and didn’t ind anything that helped. Please advise I am sure it is something simple.

Thanks in advance.

If you have bridged two interfaces newbies traffic should go through without any problem.

Maybe you turned on firewall for bridge?

NetBIOS this gift to the network admin

Are you running pure NetBIOS and not NetBIOS over TCP ip? Those few customers who still have applications that need NetBIOS all use NetBIOS over TCP IP and the problem we had was NetBIOS resolution from NetBIOS to IP. Most customers solved this with modifying the LMHOST file and static IP for the clients in DHCP but a WINS server could work as well even if the Windows admin is going to hate you for saying WINS  . When we did this we could have different subnets without any issues.

Good point and I know that will help but I would rather correct the issue at the router level. Do you think it is an accept that needs to be place under the NAT area? hmmmm Just wondering if any one else is having this issue. Everything works when the workstations are all on the same LAN network on a switch. But the moment I move them up to the router bridged interfaces they do not see each other but I can ping the addresses so an LMHOST or a WINS would work …but… It should not be an issue if so how and why? The workstations are still on the same subnet and technically the same level but placed on a bridge they loose the ability to see each other. Doesn’t make sense to me, Any more advice?

Thank you all.!

I think this has to do with the discovery process of NetBIOS.
Now this is a pure guess of mine but by using a switch you only operate at layer 2 and the NetBIOS should work including the discovery process.
The bridge on the other hand can switch but does it not operate at layer 3 and then only IP so NetBIOS discovery should not work within a brige but if you configure LMHOSTS or use a WINS server then client can discover each other and communicate using NetBIOS over TCP. Now the bridge this is a pure guess of mine but a know that using NetBIOS can bring a ton of issues and should be avoided at all costs.

I think you are correct. Is there anyway for a bridge or for a firewall rule set to pass anything along?

Why do you use netbios??? That is so 1985…

Is the bridge blocking broadcast traffic at layer 2 or layer 3?

I think this is a broadcast issue related to the bridge.

Read this and see if it helps you.

People still use netbios. I did not say NETBEUI or banyan vines.

Yeah I think it is an issue with how bridging works on a MT CCR. I know if I had a CRS it would be able to use the switch chip which would help.

NetBIOS over TCP/IP with a WINS server does not need broadcast to reach other stations.
