CCR1016-12G Layer 3 VLAN Routing for school

Hi folks

Looking to propose an upgrade to a flat Layer 2 network at a school to incorporate a few VLAN’s - essentially splitting the servers/firewall/staff/pupils & guest wireless.

Plan (for now) is to use 6 x 24 port access switches and wireless AP’s all connecting back to the core via MM fibre and media converters.

Needing a core switch, capable of near line rate performance across multiple VLAN’s spanning multiple interfaces. Would a CCR1016-12G be able to provide the inter-VLAN routing across multiple interfaces and cope with the load?

Image below of what I have in mind:

Many thanks
Craig.

Hi , it deppend on how many hosts will be active at the Same Time if you have lets say 200 hosts you still good to Go with the Cloud Core, otherwise i will say Build Router os x86 pc .

I would look a step up at the 1036, netting much more throughput for ~$300 additional. With the 2S+ model, you can also bring 10G to your servers, and have headway to increase the RAM on the router, both giving you room for growth.
