CCR2216 Performance numbers are off ?

(we are thinking about replacing our 1072s with something better, either with a CCR2216 or an MX204 box)

Checking the mikrotik website, CCR2216 has 69,336.2 Mbps throuput vs the CCR1072 which is 78,960.3 Mbps with 1518 byte packets
But in the youtube video of CCR2216 it states that it does 197398 Mbps .

So according to the performance metrics in the Mikrotik website CCR1072 is a much better router than CCR2216.

Is it really the case or Am I missing something ?

You’re probably referring to the table shown around 2:46 of video. The subtitle says those numbers are about L3 HW offloaded performance. I’m guessing that numbers on the product page are about CPU routing.

it’s a matter of interpretation

yes its true ccr2116/2216 (both use the same cpu, same clockspeed) have less CPU processing capacity than ccr1072

but

2116/2216 have 3x to 4x the single thread performance of 1072

anybody who had worked 1072 with heavy traffic know that is very unlikely to efficiently spread tasks on so many cores, most of the time you end up being limited by single thread performance except very specific scenarios

So single thread performance is the goal here and now on

Adittionaly, 2116/2216 open a new era combining layer 3 HW acceleration to multiply performance, so keep in mind that when comparing this performance data, 1072 does not support that

It is very strange comparison even based on the price. I talk about CCR2216 and MX204. If you can afford to buy MX204 of course choose it. It will be much much better.

We always prefer Mikrotik if it does the job and if it is within the requirements.

@doush, how do you use CCR1072 now? What scenario?
