CF cards in RB1000 fail

Got an RB1000 with 2x 4Gb Kingston CF cards installed.

They worked fine for a month or so, then suddenly…

[me@router] > /store disk print
Flags: S - system
 # NAME TOTAL-SPACE FREE-SPACE STATUS
 0 S system 61440KiB 32736KiB ready
 1 CF1 invalid
 2 CF2 invalid

I had Dude running on one card and Web-Proxy cache on the other card.

I tried rebooting, upgrading (used to be 3.24, now 3.30), formatting, cleaning, checking… all to no use.

If I do a Clean Drive, I get a “Clean Drive Error - the disk is not mounted (6)” error.
If I format from Winbox, nothing happens (status remains invalid)
If I format from Commandline, status changes to ‘formatting’ but nothing really happens.

I’ve already been in touch with MikroTik support about this, they couldn’t figure out what was wrong.

Any ideas here?

PS: no 'upgrade to v4 unless you’ve seen this problem already and was fixed with v4. This router is on the other side of Europe and I wouldn’t want to play around with OS versions unnecessarily.

Try them in an x86 PC to see if they have gone bad. My guess is that they have failed.

Tom

I will have to do that on my next visit in a few months… was hoping for some ideas which don’t involve any local actions.

Web-Proxy cache very frequently write/read CF cards.
This is best way to kill them :frowning:
Next time use ‘Industrial Grade’ cards, or CF sized hard disks.
