I use changeip’s free service on a few routers, but after so many months, I get an email saying I must login or they will be canceled. With DynDns.org, as long as they are regurarly used and updated, they won’t cancel. There really is no need in logging in, so why do they get canceled?

We require you to login once per 180 days on completely free accounts. This keeps the hostnames fresh in the system and keeps the 500,000+ accounts from hogging all the domains. The login requirement is basically there to make sure your email address is correct.
As long as they update at least once every 28 days, doesn’t that basically mean they are being actively used? When they no longer get updated, then they are obviously not used anymore.
