Changing MTU on PPPoE Client corrupts dial password

Hi all,

Had a few confusing occasions where I’ve altered the PPPoE MTU on remote sites to values I know work and ended up being disconnected from the site. Upon attending I found the PPPoE reporting authentication failures.

If I retype the password (looks apparently unchanged) and click apply, suddenly the connection is working again which means the action of changing the MTU fields did something to the password.

Bit of an odd one, anyone else experienced this or can Verify? v6.31 RB2011

Very annoying to have to go out to site. Not sure if safe mode would have saved me.

Even if somebody did experience the same, ROS 6.31 is ancient and everybody already forgotten about the issue. I suggest you to go on site (just in case) and upgrade ROS to latest long-term (6.43.16 at this time).

I have never encountered this, and we have a lot of ROS deployed client-side.

If PPPoE client in question is authing with plaintext PAP, you should be able to see what password it is sending to the NAS (via verbose logs on the RADIUS server), and thus see exactly how it is being changed.
