Chateau 5G R17 ax / Problem attaching to LTE network

I'm actually a newbie working with Mikrotik. Modem doesn't detect any LTE network signals.

I have a MikroTik Chateau 5G R17 ax with the following modem:

  • Modem: Quectel RG650E-EU
  • Revision: RG650EEU00AAR01A04G8G
  • RouterOS: 7.24.1

Current status

/interface/lte/monitor lte1 once:

status: deregistered
manufacturer: Quectel
model: RG650E-EU
revision: RG650EEU00AAR01A04G8G

Trying to upgrade firmware I get following message:

As I have bought the modem in Germany and trying to use it in middle east just wanted to know if there would be a workaround to solve the issue as I'm using the modem in different region.

Please let me know if I should run any commands in terminal to provide you with more details.

Regardless of why, some firmware features aren't licensed for use outside the intended region.
If you buy a product for Europe, where it's clearly stated, then don't expect it to work elsewhere...

Support depends on your exact country and on your mobile network operator. You havent't stated both.

Your modem supports these bands:

This is fixed in hardware. Check with your local mobile network operator which bands are supported.

This picture is taken from the specification sheet. Check the specification sheet and ask your operator for advice. Ask your operator for a compatible modem.

And don't forget the SIM card. If you have a card from a non-local provider you need to check for roaming capability. Better use a local SIM card since you save the huge roaming fees.

Simply...
Those regions have a technology embargo and don't support SIM cards from those operators.
Without wasting time with the tables, just read what's written in the image...

In an ideal world, all that should matter is if the bands are aligned between modem and tower (with a valid SIM/account)...

But the firmware note is telling as @rextended suggests. Now theoretically that applies to firmware upgrade, since MikroTik blocks downloads from certain regions. While IDK exactly, but imagine the modem also enforces restrictions if operating in some regions...

If you don't think the region/country is the issue, you can do a cell-monitor to see if you're picking up any towers, and/or enable more logging for LTE topics=lte,!packet,!raw which have more details where the connection attempt fails. There are some MBIM stages shown in logs, so often which step it stops/fails will be very telling at the problem.

Thanks for the info. I run a cell-monitor but apparently I got no towers.

RG650E-EU will not work in countries like Russia, Syria, Cuba, Iran etc. That's Quectel's decision. Other models have old firmware versions that still work, but there is no such option for this model.

What about R11e LTE7 in Chateau LTE7 AX? Does it work in those countries?

You are not a citizen, national or resident of, and are not under the control of, the government of any country to which the United States, European Union, Latvia or United Nations has prohibited export of technical information, such as : Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, Russian Federation, or Republic of Belarus.

I am not no. I am helping a friend who is also not a citizen of those countries but he is on temporary bureaucratic job there for a few months and he want's unrestricted internet acess there. There are people that actualy work in those countries even now and they are from western world. It seems that they don't realy have many options with technology ban.

LTE7 works ok, limitations only on quectel modems.

Thank you. He will try to buy such device today, since he is still on EU territory.
He got quite a surprise when he bought Chateau 5G R17 that worked normaly in EU but refused to work when he arrived back to work in countries under sanctions.
