Client disconnect - extensive data loss

Hi,
i got a client using a RB 333 (ver 4.10) with a R52H card in the 802.11b band. He connects to an AP RB 433UAH with MT version 4.10 on channel 2472 using PPPOE.
Signal -80 dDm and signal to noise 32 Db with CCQ 76/73 on average.

He also set up another AP with the same SSID on the same mast but on 2447. Using SCAN, this is also the closest channel to 2772 used in the area.

The problem is that the client disconnects every now and then from the AP. AP log states “disconnected due to extensive data loss.”
There is a lot of other clients connecting to the same AP without any problems using the same MT version.
The client has already replaced the wifi card with a stronger one.

After being disconnnected, it takes a lot of tries before it reconnects (logs: about 13x “disconnected due to extensive data loss” and about the same amount of “data from unknown device MACADDRESS: send deauth” ) Then it connects.

Hw-retries was on 4 now on 15. Not better.

Any ideas? Thanks

I will almost bet that the client router shows disconnecting from one ap and attempting to connect to the other ap with the same SSID. I would change one of the SSIDs.

hi Surfer,
I thought of that as well.
I have disabled the 2nd AP but still the client connects and disconnects intermittendly with same error messages.

Changeing the SSID will be last on the list because the owner of the network already got a lot of cpe’s connecting to them and I dont want to tell him thats the reason and when he changes every client, the problem persits.

What does the client (RB333?) log say about the disconnects? What about the signal strength data from that unit? Or is the signal data above the scan from the client?

BTW, you must have a very low noise floor. I need a signal strength of about -72db to get that SNR. If it is not too much to ask, what is the setup on that unit as far as antenna and cable (transmission line) type and length?

Hi Surf,

The RB333 says “lost connection - no beacon received”

Signal on RB333 is -81 and antenna cable is a LMR400 and less than 2m.

Thanks

That means the client is not receiving the ap SSID. It sounds like the signal may be fading in and out, or you are getting noise/interference on that frequency. Any chance of getting that signal strength up to about -75db on both ends?

What type antennas are you using on each end? Flat panel? Sector? Omni? Maybe a more directional/higher gain antenna on the client end would help.

ADD: More directional is better for me than higher gain sometimes. If you are getting noise/interference from behind the client (other side of the client to the ap), the directional antenna will attenuate that signal.
