I am looking to run a CHR with the purpose of using it for a cloud controller for a CAPsMAN install… can this be done? any tricks?
It can be. If you want to forward traffic through it, you would need appropriate license level. If you will use local forwarding, you can run capsman on whatever existing device in your network.
CHR has full funcionality at all license levels. The only difference is interfaces maximal speed.
Free license level limits speed to 1Mb per interface. If it is sufficient then you have fully functional tool for CAPSMan.
I am assuming when using a remote CAPsMAN setup like this, there is a minimal about of traffic that is being sent between the CAPsMAN and the CAPs and all internet traffic would go out the local internet connection and NOT use the CAPsMAN routerboard as the internet source?
Yes, there is no need to pass outgoing traffic via CAPMan.
Just set different/proper GW in the DHCP configuration and voilà … Internet traffic passes by CHR.
Great thanks
Hi, when you tried this did it work?
