Common installation mistakes to avoid

Hello,

I would like to propose a pinned post in the wireless section that contains the most common mistakes that are made when doing an installation of wireless equipment.

My aim is to help to keep high standards for wireless installations, and to educate the best practices to newcomers.

My first thought is to always seal connectors using self amalgamating tape, and to ensure that the winding of the tape ‘pulls’ the connector clockwise, otherwise the tape could undo the connector slightly and mess things up.

Wiring husbandry is also very important. Incorrectly routed and nested cables can cause a lot of problems. Minimum bend radius of the cable must be adhered to. The correct separation of types of cables and distances required is of high importance. Avoid mixing cables types in a bundle. Use of cable ties : over tightening of them is very common and causes fatigue over time due to expansion, contraction and excess stress on cable components. Correct spacing of ties and correct cable droop will prolong the life of the cables. Outdoor use of ties should be made of UV resistant plastic.

And the main one: PLANNING!

Failing to plan is planning to fail.

These are just a few random off the top of the head ones I thought of while writing the post. The list is endless.

I hope that everybody benefits from this thread if it becomes popular.
