Compatibility RB411U + 3G Modem (miniPCI)

Dear colleagues.
We need to run a RB411U board with 3G modem. There are three requirements:

  1. The minimum speed: DL-7Mb, UL-2Mb (HSPDA, HSPUA)
  2. Modem Format: miniPCI
  3. PIN code validation.

We conducted a study of all modems in the http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported_Hardware%20#%203G_cards.

The Result:

  1. Sierra Wireless modems - do not pass PIN validation, see http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/sierra-3g-card-pin-authentication-failure/48715/1
  2. Other modems are very slow or non-miniPCI format

Question: You know a modem that meets our requirements??

Thanks in advance.

Just small correction,

miniPCI express (for 3G).

I consider these 4 requirements are quite common and even necessary (as in case of PIN validation and AT commands), but none of the modems listed on ‘Supported Hardware’ section meets those requirements.

  1. The minimum speed: DL-7Mb, UL-2Mb (HSPDA, HSPUA)
  2. Modem Format: miniPCI express
  3. PIN code validation.
  4. Data Channel and Info Channel must be different in order to query some info params via AT commands once connection is established.

Currently Sierra Wireless is the only manufacturer which provides models meeting those requirements, but they are not fully compatible with ROS (validating PIN).
It would be great and almost necessary to add support to ROS firmware for compatibility with Sierra Wireless devices, or ask Sierra Wireless to collaborate with Mikrotik development team to make Sierra devices work correctly.
In case collaboration betwen Sierra Wireless and Mikrotik were not possible, I would appreciate any advice to solve this issue.

Kind regards.

Hello.
We acquired a Sierra Wireless modem MC8792V. We did the tests and the result - The modem does not support validation PIN code via Data-channel. Neither this nor any.
We have a collection of modems (about 800 euros loss), we are buying to see that are not compatible with ROS. Although the page http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported_Hardware#3G_cards indicates that they are all compatible.
They are only compatible if you disable the PIN-code, but this does not work for industrial environments, for company that has distributed hundreds of devices.. Sure, if you play at home.

U-ff-f. Losing confidence … :frowning:

are you sure you tested with v5.6?
this was fixed a long time ago. send a supout.rif file with the logs to support.

Yes. We are testing with v5.6 also.
We have this issue open for some months (contact: Sergejs), trying to buy different modems, but they all work similar.

Sergejs replied to you exactly one month ago. Since then, you have not responded.

Exactly. His answer was - your modem are not compatible.
I just buy another modem MC8792V. It works the same.
And we had about 6 others from this list - work the same.

Access via SSH and Winbox for our RB411U is enabled.

no, that was not his response. quote:

It would be nice to get access to another router+modem

he was waiting for you, to show him a different example. you didn’t write back. please do so now.

Done.
