Given a ptp link running 2.9 on both ends, one end of which was hit by lightning, can that end be replaced with 333 running 3.x or are the two versions of the OS not compatible?

I did the exactly the same thing, replacing a bad unit for a ptp link with 3.0 and they would not connect. So we ended up changing the rb with 2.9 and it worked. I’m kind of curious as well.
