Complete Cloning of a Routerboard - License Issues?

Hi,

i’d like to clone the complete configuration (including modified MAC adresses, board-generated ssl-private keys for openvpn etc.) of a RouterBoard (hAP ac) to an newly purchased identical device. The new device should only sit on the shelf as an identical configured replacement device in case of a failure of the first one.

For cloning configurations, the export/import procedure seems to be recommended, but it doesn’t seem to transfer the modified MAC-configuration etc. mentioned above. So i assume the binary backup option is more suitable, but in the documentation this is recommeded only for recovery on the same board.

So my question is: When i restore a binary backup on an identical Routerboard of the same type, will it work as an fully identical (!) clone? Do i have to expect any license issues (are license-configurations also transferred and don’t match the hardware on the second board e.g.?

License is not transferred in the backup file. If the device model and version is identical, you can use Backup like you describe
