Computer network design using MikroTik: Looking for the coffee-break napkin discussion

  1. Excluded the wi-fi part, a (free, limited in speed) Mikrotik CHR in GNS3 (installing GNS3 is a Royal PITA, but once you manage to get it working it does work) you can simulate/emulate anything Mikrotik in it.

  2. No. That would be points #17 and #18 here:
GP & CSA for Mikrotik devices
But text export is fine and with only a little attention can be ported everywhere

  3. The XS+DA001 is a DAC (Direct Attach Copper), see:
    https://www.optcore.net/what-is-direct-attach-copper-cable/
it is a very good option for short distance connections as it costs a fraction of two fiber SFP’s+fiber or RJ45 SFP+cable, and using RJ45 SFP’s on passively cooled devices (often also on actively cooled ones) is (IMHO) pure folly due to the amount of power they require and the awful amount of heat they generate (let alone in a broom closet).

  4. Of course no, when you have something defined, even if it is not (or not fully) working, post it for review, some member will surely assist you with your configuration.
