conect serial device to router ?

Hello
I want to know if I can connect a serial device to the router
and them make the router and the device “talk” ?
let say I connect a serial GPS -can I write a script that display me the GPS status as a warning log?

Yes you can make use of the serial port in a number of ways -

You can even use the port as a redirected comm port connected to your PC.
