My internet provider has modem+router so my connection to IP is always connecting to IPs router.
I am connecting CRS305-1G-4S+ to internet providers router.
OS Version 7.15.3 (Believe this is router OS version).
IP provider connected to SFP1 port
My PC connected to SFP2 port
This is what is happening.
I see CRS305-1G-4S+ gets IP address from my Internet provider
I see my machines connected to the router gets the ip address
Things that’s not working is
I cant ping from my machines to anything on internet
I cant access my internet
I cant even ping my router aka CRS305-1G-4S+ from my machine but was able to connect to admin console from my machine using browser and address 192.168.88.1
Basic questions I had
How do you know if its booted with routerOs or swtichOs (as all the configuration are available on both os)
I can using quick config to use routerOS or swtichOS but dont see any other way to do that - there was a note that one can go to switchOs config under system and config to routerOs but doesn’t work
After converting to RouterOS it still doesn’t work
BTW If i keep it as a switchOS my machines are able to connect to internet and all seems to work well but thats not what I want to do.
My ISP router is not a good one, It doesnt support over 100 devices that I have in my home. Think it breaks down after 20 devices (though it does gives out 100 unique IP Addresses). I had TP-Link router before and it solved the problem but I had some bad experiences with TP-Link and believe it was related to its Chinese origin.
Hence this device, that can work as router and supports 2.5GBPS thru SFP+ port.
That 2.5 Gbps is switching, not routing. Two very different things here.
If your speed is slow and you are thinking about upgrade then fine, but as @anav said, that device, although there is router in its name, it’s not very good at it.
If you have 100 devices at home (wow) then it’s better for you to invest in something more powerful (ax3, or maybe if budget allows it, RB5009) and use CRS as a switch.
Finally got it working. I had to restart fresh and instead of using the ui to do configuration I used command line and it worked Not sure what I did wrong.
to my understanding as I read the specs (Again might have interpreted incorrectly) the SFPPlus port support 2.5GB comms. Hence the router as my ISP modem also supports 2.5 GBPS comms. Didnt see any other router in $100 range support that (Apart from chinese routers and I already talked about them in my first post)
Look at ethernet trst results, routing 25 ip filter rules, 512 byte packet size. The number stated there represents real-life performance the best.
And individual interface speed doesn’t change it.
