Configuring the SXT LTE (RRBSXTLTE3-7) with a Router / Access Point

I’m extremely new to MikroTik Technology and having just moved house we are looking at buying the SXT LTE (RRBSXTLTE3-7) for internet access.
What I was wondering is: Is it possible to connect the SXT LTE (RRBSXTLTE3-7) to a regular Wireless Access Point such as ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-Dual-Band-AC1900-Router/dp/B06Y3T4CR5/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1531618551&sr=8-7&keywords=router) so that everyone in the house can get internet. Sorry for the stupid question and Thank you again!

Hello,

Yes, it is possible provided both are properly setup.

Instead of the Netgear I’d go with a Mikrotik AP, like the Hap ac.

The easiest configuration would be

1.- Set up the LTE using the wizard to provide Internet (HomeAP? setting).
2.- Plug the LTE to the Hap ac and set it up as wired/wireless switch, see my answer to this post.

@pukkita:
Would a router such as the one I linked not be compatible or what’s your reasoning for suggesting the MikroTik router?

The reasoning behind:

  • hap ac is a router board, and as such is 100% programmable
  • I can provide specific instructions
  • One of the best APs Mikrotik has for your application.
  • You may want a dual WAN setup in the future

The Netgear (or any other “canned setup” AP) should be possible to put it to work by either leaving the LTE as WAN device (double NAT) on the Netgear or by plugging it on the LAN ports and disabling WAN and DHCP on the Netgear. Both of them lesser solutions vs what I initially posted.

How and if will depend on specific router brand, model… etc.

And to finish the Hap ac runs circles around the Netgear for the same price. Don’t let the looks mislead you: size and big antennas only make a difference in the picture.

Thanks a lot for the fast and clear responses pukkita! I’ll contact you again when I buy the SXT and AP because I’ll probably need some instructions for the setup process
