Hello MikroTikers
Beginner here, just started working on a job that requires me to learn the ropes of sysadmin jobs. I worked in this field long time ago and now I’m slowly catching up.
The company I work for has 50 computers on a private network and they use MikroTik for the main router and firewall purposes. WinBox 6.15 is the only piece of software I use to tweak the settings.
As I’ve said, I consider myself absolute beginner. I’ve installed Sniffer (I think I found it on this forum) to monitor what computer is using most bandwidth.
Today I want to add some sites on the blocked list. I’ve went into IP > Web Proxy > Access > Web Proxy Access. There’s a strange problem that I have.
My computer has the admin rights so I can access everything without restrictions (I can see that my IP address has the “noproxy” list attached in the Firewall > Address Lists page. The computer I’m testing has the IP address that falls under the restricted address list.
When I look at the Web Proxy Access list of denied websites, I can’t access them on this test computer. But there’s a problem. Rule #100 is instagram, I’ve put
*instagram*
under Dst. Host and added a redirect to google.com. When I try to access instagram on my computer, I see the site (as I should) and the test computer doesn’t. All is fine.
Rule #101 is for facebook. Again, no address given, just Dst. Host
:facebook:
with google redirect. The test computer access it. Same with rule #102, Twitter.
Why does the proxy work on instagram but doesn’t apply to face or twitter? How do I pinpoint the root cause of this? I’ve checked the proxy list, there’s no double entries on Facebook or any terms that block “face” or “book” or anything similar.
The only thing peculiar is facebook and twitter load with https and instagram doesn’t. I don’t know if this has anything to do with the proxy though. I’ve also tried changing the Dst host to full facebook url address, still the test computer can access it.
Thanks for any help folks ![]()
