Connect to wireless

Hello,

I want to connect to some wireless network, which I have access to, from my RB751 and then create new wireless network on my RB751, on which my clients will connect.

I have read http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Connect_to_an_Available_Wireless_Network and it works perfectly, except for the part of creating new wireless ssid for my clients to connect.

I have tried creating Virtual AP, but I’m not sure what do I have to configure to get it working. I’m a beginner in RouterOS and I’m a little lost. Can someone advise on how to do this?

Thanks for your answrs!

Br, Samuel

You can’t do that unless you your clients are Mikrotik Routers because there is only 1 radio in the 751… and that single radio can only be a client and an access point with WDS mode… and that only works with other mikrotik routers.

If you want to make a regular client, and a regular access point, then you need a routerboard with 2 radios… and the 751 doesn’t have a slot for a second radio.

This is something that many of us want mikrotik to provide functionality for… but so far they have not… but you can do this with off the shelf walmart routers using third party firmware.

Hello,

thank you very much for your quick reply. When I looked at the configuration and Google results I suspected that this couldn’t be possible, but the fact that I done this on my Linksys with dd-wrt was making me unsure  I must say that I’m a little disappointed.

Btw which model would you recommend for such setup?

br, Samuel

Yes, dd-wrt has this feature… but Mikrotik won’t implement it!

Anyway, you can use any routerboard that has capability for 2 radios. The RB411AR has a built-inn radio + a slot for a 2nd radio. The 493 has slots for 3 radios. Just look at routerboard.com and see all the models, you need either built-in + at least 1 slot, or no built-in and at least 2 slots.
