we are going to build a local network for a police station. police car is 5Km(at maximum) away from the main station and will be going to connect to a speed control system from a laptop.
we decided to use a omnitik in the main station. But we have some questions:
do we need sxt?
because all client devices should be in the police car, can sxt be placed in the car?
It is not possible to use any dish. (space limit)
Is this possible? If I’m wrong, Is there any other solution?
omnitik to sxt is ok at 5km providing you have good LOS and clear fresnal. i think you will have trouble achieving good signal from a car. definately not from inside the car. This is not really a good solution for this project. How much bandwidth is required?
5ghz to a laptop inside a car might get you only just down the block, not anywhere near 5kms.
SXT is a directional fixed mount antenna needing line of sight., you cannot use it for mobile inside a car.
You need a different solution entirely for your project, one that I can’t even think of if you need 5km mobile range.
if there are obstacles you will be better off with 2GHz solution as you do not need high bandwidth. However of these purposes usually OMNI antenna is used (if can be connected to laptop. On the other hand, you can add more AP along the track you are going to drive and achieve coverage that way.
