I’m running a hAP ac (V6.36.2, wireless-rep) as an access point. The “wlan2 (5GHz)” interface runs as ap-bridge.
I have only a few clients:
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S4 mini
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
The first three just run fine, i.e. as soon as they get within reach of the AP they connect (I can see a connect message in the log) an stay connected.
The problem is with my tablet. It as well gets connected but after some time there is
(very seldom) a reassociation message in the log
(or very frequent every approx. 5 minutes…several hours) several messages “data from unknown device , sent deauth”
which according to the Wiki indicates that the tablet is no longer registered to the AP. The number of “data from unknown device” message varies.
The tablet was running (stock) Android 5.x until last week and besides the messages in the log was working ok, i.e. the tablet got reconnected after a few seconds. I now have it updated to (stock) Android 6 and now the problem got even worse. Same as with Android 5 but now it also happens that I get hundrets of “data from unknown device” messages without a reconnection over minutes/hours. I manually have to disable/reenable wifi on the tablet to get it back online. In addition to that, if during that time another client that is not yet connected to the AP gets within reach it “thinks” it gets connected to the AP but is not registered correctly. So unless I switch off the wifi on the tablet it prevents other clients to register to the AP.
As all clients but the tablet seem to work ok I don’t think that it is some fundamental problem neither with the AP nor with the configuration but with the tablet. But as the tablet is widely spread and I haven’t heard of fundamental wifi problems with the tablet I can also not believe that there is a problem with the tablet. So I’m just looking for some input what I could try to solve the problem.
I had a similar problem with a Logitec Harmony Hub as long as I hadn’t turned on WMM support on the according interface (wlan1). So maybe I’m just missing some config options (WMM is turned on also on wlan2).
thanks for your input. WPS currently was switched to “push button” on both interfaces (only 5GHz is used for the listed devices). I now have switched it to “disabled” as I have never used it before. I will see if that makes a difference.
attached please find the requested wireless configuration. I’ve replaced the pre-shared-keys, all other is unchanged.
Meanwhile I have also done some more experiments.
I’ve added a new virtual interface on 2.4GHz to create a AP for the Tab S2 only as I have read several posts on the net that state that my problem might be related to the use of 5GHz. As that did not help I have disabled that interface again (but it is still listed in the wireless configuration).
I borrowed a wireless repeater (TP-Link) from a friend. This repeater can be switched to AP mode. Nothing special to configure for that device. There haven’t been any disconnects of the Tab S2 for three days! So even though I think the cause of all the trouble is more related to the Tab S2 it seems that there are devices that work.
Hello. Did you find a solution for this? I have the same problem after switching from another brand router to Mikrotik. Same wifi access point before and after router change (Ruckus R300), so I think the problem is in the router, and not wifi. Thank you, BR
