Correct way to assign IPv6 address to wAP ac?

I’ve got a 750Gr3 + wAP ac.

The 750Gr3 is being assigned a prefix and I’ve set up a pool. My Linux desktop, server and Mac laptops all get IPv6 addresses automatically (I assume via SLAAC).

However, the wAP ac doesn’t get an IPv6 address. According to some documentation I’ve read, routers can’t be assigned IPv6 addresses this way. But I don’t understand why this is? What is the limitation?

In any case, should I set up DHCPv6 server on the 750Gr3 and DHCPv6 client on the wAP ac? What is the best approach?

Thanks.

Set up static IP from that pool.

Do you mind explaining in a bit more detail? Sorry, I’m still learning all these things.

So, you say set up a static address from the pool. Where do I do this?

I tried setting up a DHCPv6 Server on the main router, and DHCPv6 Client on the wireless access point. I set the client to request an address, but it never picked it up, it just sits there “Scanning…”.

Under IPv6 Addresses you add an IPv6 address. Select the IPv6 pool you set up. Just put something like ::3/64 in the address field. It will grab the prefix from the pool and combine the two to make your IPv6 address.

So, I have two devices, the 750Gr3 which gets the IPv6 prefix and pool from the ISP, and is working fine, and the wAP ac which I’m trying to give an IPv6 address. There is no pool on the wAP ac device. I tried adding the address under the IPv6 menu to the wAP ac “::3/64” but it doesn’t seem to get expanded. What am I doing wrong?
