Cost effective 2.4 and 5Ghz AP for a/b/g/n/ac

Hi,

I’m just getting my toes wet with Mikrotik stuff, so please forgive the noob questions. I’m looking to build a cost effective AP and spread a few of these across my folks house, all wired back to a switch. Each of the APs would be PoE powered from the switch.

My vision is to have two SSIDs. Separated by VLANs isn’t a huge deal, but sure, I’m sure that wouldn’t be a problem with RouterOS. Also, I presume that roaming between APs on these SSIDs wouldn’t be an issue either. I guess now a days in Mikrotik terms, that would be HWMP+?

One of these APs would probably wind up being the Internet gateway router, so NAT, firewall, DHCP, all that stuff. Again, I’m sure that RouterOS has this licked out of the box.

The board I’m looking at is L4, so I’m sure features won’t be an issue.

From what I can see, there is no RouterBoard that has both a 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz radio built in, so I think I would need to grab a RB912UAG-2HPnD with a R11e-5HacD and stuff it into a CA411-711? Looking at the board and the PCI-e card, I can’t seem to figure out if I need to add antennas to this, or if the antennas are built into the enclosure or the board/card itself.

Am I on the right track here with the hardware? Anything else I need to be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

Wait for the hAP ac (lite).
It should answer your needs
