Creating Bridges in router mode - Router change mode

Hi all.
Working on RB1100, 750 and so on. Firmware 7.Y.X.

Suppose we have this scenario.

  1. Router Mode (from Quick Set)
  2. Two bridges (LAN1-Bridge and WAN1-Bridge)
    WAN1-Bridge: Eth1 and Eth2 ports
    LAN1-Bridge: Eth3 and Eth4 ports
Loop off and RSTP on for both the bridges. IP addresses on two bridges, of course.

LAN1-Bridge
PC connected with winbox

WAN1-Bridge (dhcp client)
I connect one cable on eth2 only; eth1 becomes inactive/disabled (i see it from Bridge\ports)
This is still true if move the cable from Eth2 to Eth1. Even if i an other host (say a VoIP Device) to Eth2.
I always have Eth1 as inactive/disabled.

Bridge always up and working

Well, if enable Eth1 manually, these facts occur:

  1. Router turns to bridge mode
  2. LAN1-Bridge address becomes WAN address (LAN bridge have not IP address anymore)
  3. WAN1-bridge is associated to LAN interface list.
  4. WAN list contains Eht1 port and not WAN1-bridge.

No ports of LAN-Bridge show same behaviour.

Where are my mistakes in this scenario? I argue it could be related to bridges.

Thanks in advance,

When you change anything outside the QuickSet window (and bridge manipulation is definitely something done outside QuickSet), you must never ever go back into QuickSet … it will mess up the config in various random ways.

Also beware of “detect internet” function … it can misbehave and screw you. If you know what you’re doing it’s best to disable the function and manage interface lists (WAN and LAN) manually.
