Any chance there might be a fiber version of the CRS in the not too distant future? I’m thinking maybe a 16-24 port switch with all SFP slots, supporting wire-speed at least up to 4gb SFP (although 10gb would be pretty awesome). Additional 2x 10gb SFP+ ports for uplink to switch fabric would be useful. A switch like this would make a great foundation for an iSCSI SAN, and while fiber has a greater up-front cost to implement, the power savings over copper add up over the years.
+1 We also need 16 SFP CRS
We need something like a top of rack switch, with 8-16 10GE SFP+ ports - since there seems no product to exist from any vendor.
Cisco and all other suppliers have only “BIG” solutions with 24 ports and more and only for many, many $$$
Existing small solutions have 1-2 10GE SFP+ Ports and 8-12 copper based 10GE ports, but they consume a lot of power, which seems to be normal for copper 10GE solutions and makes them less interesting.
So there is still no pure SFP+ solution for smaller customers in the smb market
Agreed - an 8-12 SFP+ ports switch for top of rack would be marvelous, coupled with the 24 port CRS (also keen to see 48 port GigE), then mixed with the CCR range, would make for some really nice Mikrotik networks.
Also - Switch Stacking.
Stackable switches would be nice, but with 10GB uplink port, and even 40GB becoming much more affordable, it’s almost pointless.
Today, a typical Top-of-Rack switch has up to 24x 1GB ports and 2-4x 10GB ports. This works if you’re daisy-chaining one rack to the next…to the next…etc., but only if if the 10GB links can support the aggregated traffic from the final rack all the way back to the core. A more sensible configuration would be a star topology with the described ToR switch, and the 10GB uplinks going to a single rack that has 16-24 port 10GB switches, or a true core switch unit (like a Cisco Nexus or Nortel Passport 8600).
Yeeee, the same
Top Of Rack
CRS (eg 24x Etherent 1g + 2xSFP+) - in every rack
+
CRS (with eg 12xSFP+) - as a core, to agregate.
Wrote the same in

- ccr as a router (routers, firewalls)
Nice MikroTik network. I hope it will be in near future ![]()
Thanks
I want stacking for a very different reason - cross fabric LACP. So if one physical switch dies, devices connected to it do not go down with it. LACP is impossible without the switches properly talking and adhering to the protocol.
It also combines the network topology learned for things like RSTP.
yes yes yes.
so dual power supply, stackable.
VRRP is nice, but a stack switch (and router) would be awesom
We also have a use case for this exact product. Either a switch or a router with 16 to 24 SFP ports would be great.
We would be using this to provide Internet connectivity to a row of about 20 houses all within about 1/4 mile of each other. We could use a device like this at the head end and then either have a RB2011 or RB260GS at each house as a CPE device.
Are there plans for such a device in the near future?
A Switch with a Tilera TileGx100 Core as the core device and then
modules to insert in Module bays, so each of us is able to set up
and inserting what he want and what he needs, and each module
should be owning a separate TileGx36 (SFP & GB) or TileGx72 (SFP+ & GbE)
CPU for driving the entire modul.
4 or 6 Module bay Switches
- 8 GB LAN Ports
- 8 SFP Ports
- 4 GbE Ports
- 4 SFP+ Ports
So it would be making sense for me, this is better then 500 different MikroTik models
and we a re all able to use the Switch for a longer time.
