Hello all,
I’m new to Mikrotik and I’m having a bit on an issue setting up my CRS125-24G-1S (V6.20) to connect to my ISP via PPPOE. I’ve tried the PPPOE connection in both the quick connect menu and by adding it through the interface menu. Both have failed. The PPPOE interface is pointed to ether-1 which is the master port for all other ports. If I open a terminal window, I can see that is tries to connect but it’s as though is not reaching the PPPOE server so there’s in no PADO. If I take my DSL modem out of bridge, I’m able to connect just fine. Currently, I’ve got my DSL modem doing the routing and my CRS125-24G-1S is just a switch. The odd thing is that I did get it to establish a PPPOE connection earlier today, but I wasn’t able to get to the internet from the LAN side even though I pulled a valid IP from my ISP. I’m assuming I didn’t have a NAT setting correct but I needed to use the internet to find what I was doing wrong. I changed the config back so I was using the DSL modem to access the internet. I found what I thought I was doing wrong and tried to setup a PPPOE connection in the CRS125-24G-1S again but I’m unable to get it to work now. Can anyone point in the right direction here?
Disconnect the port from being switched and run the PPP scanner with the modem in bridge mode. Sometimes you may need additional details when making a PPPOE connection in routerOS. If you cant see any PPP servers than there must be something wrong with your CRS
I wasn’t sure how to take ether-1 out of switch mode as it’s the master port. This got me wondering if I’m going about this wrong. Can I have the master port and the PPPOE client on the same port? However, I did take ether-2 out of the switch and configured it as the PPPOE client with the identical setup I tried on ether-1 and and it connected immediately. I did several disconnects and reconnects and it worked each time. I then selected ether-1 for the PPPOE interface and it then failed as it did yesterday. What’s the next step? Also, how would I isolate ether-1 if it’s the master port?
Dont make it the master port than. Its been a while since i last used a routerboard with a switch chip but there may be an option somewhere or some config.
Okay, How do I get the traffic from the LAN out the PPPOE connection? Say I make ether-2 the master and ether-1 the PPPOE client. Would that be a bridge? I’ve not well versed on them…
