I have no installation at customer side, were I have a need for a switch with 10GE Uplink in a desktop case.
All installations are done in a rack or 19" wall mount case, so we need the rack mount version

I was just wondering about the CRS226-24G-2S+RM (rackmount) version myself and stumbled upon this thread.

It’s listed in the quick guide on the product page - has it been released yet? Any ETA on this product?

and please… dual internal power supplies.
the connections on the board are there, the free place is inside this big case.
or at least let this be an option. i’d need -48VDC capable devices, and
i can’t do it w/o losing warranty. all i need is 2 pcs of 10 cent connectors soldered
to their proper place on the PCB.

fully agree. but look, all your devices are pretty much “hackable”, there’s room inside, there are even proper
cutouts to add power connectors to them. it’s so nice, i love them.
the PCB is ready to accept internal connections, just the connectors are missing.
even there are signs of dual PS readiness.

but right now all i can do is:

  • take apart / install proper power supplies / add fuses / solder & lose warranty - but it looks professional
    or
  • take apart / install proper power supplies / add fuses / loop internal DC cable from internal PS to the outside and plug it it to the DC jack - looks hacked, and lacks of redundancy
    or
  • use some external power supplies to have 24V from 48V - takes up extra space, no dual PS support, DC jack does look ridiculous - but i keep warranty :slight_smile:

i would pay extra $$ to have the internal connectors installed in the factory, but sales said it require custom manufacturing and some thousand of devices would need to be ordered at the same time :frowning:

Slightly off topic, but you could use something like externally this to create a dual power feed from two different power bricks.

Good day, this is my first post here so hi everyone.

I hope it is ok to revive this thread with my questions about the box power supply, otherwise please let me know to open a new one.

We have just received our first 3 CRS226-24G-2S±RM and so far, so good. We will be testing them in a datacenter environment and, as many other people has already said, dual internal power supplies are very desirable.

The box has even a hole for an IEC power connector and a place for an internal fan. So I am thinking about installing inside a decent power supply like a Mean Well RS-25-24 and cable it up to the “aux power” holes in the mainboard.

So here is my first question. Given the wide power tolerance of the board, is there any recommendation about the best nominal voltage to be supplied? I notice that Mikrotik ships a 24V supply and hence I have selected another 24V supply, but is this to be preferred to a say 12V supply, which has the advantage of being able to power also a small fan of the most common type?

Now about the actual implementation: Given the pitch between the + and - holes of said holes, what connector would be best suited to do a neat job? Perhaps one like those in the CCR routers? Who makes them, anybody knows?
