What is the routing speed of this device?
I am considering this unit to bridge between 2 networks. It only needs to do switching and 1 default route. No ACL or other things, just plain routing.
Uplink port will be 1x 10Gbit. Can this unit do this or do I need the CCR? I think this will be sufficient, since its only 1 default route (So any L3 switch will work) but I’m not sure if this is handled by the hardware (so it can do wirespeed routing) or if the routing is done by the CPU (which is, in this unit, in that case the limiting factor)
Unfortunately routing is completely done in software/CPU. Performance will be nowhere near 10G, even 1G is impossible.
Replace one of the CRS with a CCR for much faster routing.
So in fact, this device works as a 24-port switch with a simple routerboard in 1 case?
Since the Mikrotik website was labelling it as a ‘L3 switch’ I was hoping to have some decent throughput.
Off course I wasn’t expecting full throughput when using nat and a lot of other cpu-intensive jobs, but for basic routing without nat..
Anyway: I’ll consider it as a bigswitch-with-integrated-RB750 and continue my search for a very simple basis 10G switch with real L3 (or L2+) capabilities…
