CRS226 IP network and SFP+ question

Hi all,

Got my CRS226 switch. Using it as a switch only with all ports (including the SFP+ ones slave to ETH1). All works as expected with no issues.
Now I am looking at the SFP+ option and really I am not an expert, I have been searching on the net and cannot find a clear black and white answer so i am here to ask the experts.
Lets assume I have the correct SFP+ on the switch end ans a server end via a DAC. My question is this:

if I plug the server in the SFP+ port only will the CRS226 allow the server to communicate with he rest of the equipment/servers plugged into the GB ports? Or are the SFP+ ports only to be used as fiber connection only (for example between a virtual host and shared storage) with no way to communicate with the rest of the IP network.

I want to give my server a 10GB connection to the rest of the network but I need to be sure it works this way before spending $$ on DAC cable and card for my server.

Thanks guys.

Treat the SFP+ ports as normal ports. It all comes down to how you configure them. I have a storage server plugged into one, and a hypervisor plugged into the other on mine. You can use them as either access or trunk ports…that’s the beauty of ROS…they let you do what you want with the ports instead of locking them as uplinks.
