CRS310-8G-2S+-IN expected internet performance?

I had high hopes for this device but I believe I should have purchased something else.

I posted a similar thread but on a lesser used sub-forum and hope to get more feedback here in the General forum.

I purchased the CRS310-8G-2S±IN but am only getting around 500Mbit/s internet/WAN throughput when connected to my cable modem using a dhcp lease. I was expecting more given it’s all 2.5/10 gigabit ports but I may not have set up the device properly. I am using a basic WAN on eth1 and then PCs on the other ports that are bridged together. The firewall walls are basic pulled from public sources with fasttrack enabled. I get much faster internet performance on my cheap TP Link Wifi “router.”

Is 500Mbit the expected maximum performance for the CRS310? Any pointers or guides on how to optimally configure it to get faster throughput to the internet is appreciated in advance.

You should have bought something else. CRSes are switches first, not routers, even if they can do routing. With the advent of L3 hardware offload they can route at wirespeed, but not all can also do L3 offload for NAT and firewalling, and the CRS310 can’t.

Looking at the test results, 500M is about as good as it’s going to get in software.

CRS310 is geared toward as a switch not much of a router

Looks like you got the same answer as before(by different people).

I would suggest making sure to do some research before buying your next piece of hardware.

I will!
What do you recommend that can get me 2 gigabit internet performance without a doubt? I got recommendations from the one poster in the other less used sub forum but am looking for confirmation or other suggestions.
Also, the CRS310 can work as a managed switch at 10 gigabit throughput, right?

For 2.5gig ethernet throughput or two 1 gig connections, look no further than the RB5009. It has 1x 2.5gbe port and 1x sfp+ port as well.
Throughput capable on the wan side on the RB5009 of around 3gigs throughput. Competitively priced at $219.
( next up is the CCR2004-16G-2S+ with around 4.5gigs throughput, priced at $465, comes with 2x SFP+ ports )
( flagship model CCR2116-12G-4S+ with around 16 gigs throughput priced at $995, comes with 4x SFP+ ports )

I am looking at the same switch 310-8g-2S-IN due to the number of copper ethernet ports rated at 2.5Gbps. I am getting an NAS with 4x 2.5gb internet connections so this is perfect and will LACP them together. i can use the other sfp+ ports to another managed switch or perhaps the router which has one.

My question on this switch is what will happen if I plug one of the copper ethernet ports rated at 2.5gb to a standard 1gig switch port on another switch.
Will traffic flow or not?

The rb5009 should handle the 2gbit Internet fine, if you want more than one sfp+ port, upgrade to a ccr2004-16g-2s+.

The crs310 can definitely switch 10gbit worth of traffic over the sfp+ port. It’s managed so you can configure vlans, rstp, etc. You just need a good router to handle that traffic.
